Are you in the Light?
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. ¶ John 3 : 21
When you have nothing to hide, you hide nothing. I know...sounds like something that you would read from a fortune cookie, but that doesn't diminish its truth. Adam and Eve were perfectly relaxed in the Garden of Eden. In fact, the Bible says, "And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." Genesis 2:25. They were innocent, they had nothing to hide. This is how the life of a Christian ought to be, just without the running around naked...please don't do that! Our lives should be open and naked to the world, but because of sin, we often hide our lives from view, we are ahamed of them. Genesis 3:7 says, "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons." and vs 10 says, "And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." What changed between Genesis 2:25 and Genesis 3:7 & 10? S.I.N. Sin brings shame, and a desire to cover up the transgression. Adam and Eve weren't seeing anything that they hadn't seen already. They had run around together for a while, why is it now they can't look at eachother? One sin leads to another, then another, and another still. They had 1 rule in the garden...Tend the garden and don't eat the fruit from that 1 tree. That was it, but when they broke that rule, they tried to cover it up, they hid from God, and they started blaming anyone but themselves. And because of their sin, an animal had to die. God killed the animal to cover Adam and Eve.
Once we come to Jesus, our sins are washed away and forgotten. We can once again come to the light, naked (not literally) before God and not be ashamed. This is why the devil wants to keep reminding you of your sins. God doesn't remember them anymore, so He doesn't hold them against us. He is not the one that is making you feel guilty over past mistakes, that is you. It is not our job to cover our sins, God has already done that. It is now your job to follow Him, and allow Him to change you into who He wants you to be. You will mess up! I guarantee it! When you do, go to God, go to the light, do not run from it. God hasn't given up on you. This doesn't mean we need to feel comfortable sinning. We should NEVER feel comfortable with sin. As Christians, we should abide in the light of Jesus. John 12:46 says, "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness." Jesus died not to cover our sins, but to pay for them! Have you let His light shine in your heart? Have you let His blood wash away your sins? Being baptized doesn't wash away your sins, only Jesus' blood can do that!
