Do you believe what you are saying?
How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation. ¶ Daniel 4 : 3
The words in today’s verse were spoken by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, after God had worked through Daniel and a dream to speak to him. Nebuchadnezzar had basically conquered the world. Almost every nation had been brought under his dominion, so got to thinking that he was really powerful. He got conceited, which is a very dangerous thing for anybody to do. Now, you would think with a proclamation like this, that Nebuchadnezzar had gotten the idea and humbled himself. You might would think that he would take whatever steps he could take to avoid what was prophesied. God had told Nebuchadnezzar, through this dream and Daniels interpretation, that he, Nebuchadnezzar, would be driven from man and be forced to live in a field with the beasts. His hair would grow over him like wings, and his nails would grow long like talons, and he would eat grass like an ox, until he finally learned to give glory to God, the one who had made him and given him his power.
Nebuchadnezzar’s problem was simple, He didn’t really believe God. He viewed the works of God, like I view the acts of David Copperfield (the man, not the book). I love to see a good illusionist. I can’t explain how they do what they do, but I don’t really believe that they can do the things that they make us think that they did. People who don’t really know the Lord think of God this way too. They may celebrate His prophecy and miracles, but they don’t really trust or believe God. Then again, I wouldn’t want to just pick on the lost people of the world. Christians often don’t believe in God as they should. We appreciate His provisions, or at least we say we do. And we marvel at His power displayed in our lives and the lives of those around us, but we don’t get off of the throne of our lives. We make ourselves lord of our lives, and want God to settle for being savior. Nebuchadnezzar didn’t really believe what he was saying, and that is evidenced by the fact that his life didn’t change. As Christians, our lives should be different because we know this verse is true. We don’t have to have a dream or hear a prophecy, we have a Savior. Our lives need to reflect what we believe about God…He can get "lip service" from anyone. He wants our lives to be our testimony to what we believe about God!
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 1And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
