Do you love God?

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

¶ I JOHN 4 : 12

What is your attitude about love? Is it simply an emotion, or a good feeling? Or do you sing with Tina…"What’s love got to do with it?"? As Christians, we are called to love one another, and to love those around us. Love is a dominant feature of a Christian, or at least it should be. There are too many "Christians" who say that they love God, but their life is spent to bring themselves pleasure. Today’s verse starts our by saying, "No man hath seen God at any time." John was making a point here. Later in verse 20 of John 4 it says, "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?". How can a person claim to love God, whom he hasn’t seen, and hate someone alive that he has seen. The Bible is very clear on how we show our love for God, and that is by showing His love to others! Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15 and "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." in John 14:21. Our love for God is shown when we "keep His commandments" and He has commanded us to "love one another".

Now, the big question, should we love one another just because God tells us to, in other words, is love simply something that we have to do? NO!!!! Our motivation for loving should come from a thankful heart in response to God’s amazing demonstration of love by sending Jesus to die on the cross for you and me. 1 John 4:10 says, "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." When we were destitute, and definitely undeserving, God sent Jesus to die for you and me. He sent Him to pay for sins that He would NEVER commit, so that you could have that relationship with Him. And here is how you know if you have that relationship with Him, or not. "We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death." 1 John 3:14

No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
