Freedom and Thanksgiving

The Lord has been teaching me a valuable lesson lately on freely giving. I can go on and on with this but I am going to share with you all a story that happened a few months ago that really made me start to wonder was freely give truly meant to me:

I was at a concert later last year and before the concert, there were a bunch of police dudes doing their jobs. Making sure ‘none of the crazy fans jumped the gate’

While they were doing their job there were a few guys witnessing, one guy was able to grab some of the officers and begin to spread the good news with them. But my heart began to break when I saw that these officers were only making fun of the guy as he was trying to talk to them. The men walked away and a few hours later the gate opened.

I walked over to the merch table ready to buy some goodies when I noticed that he was talking to the two officers that had made fun of the guy witnessing to them. Apparently these two guys had ‘never heard of this singer kid’ and wanted to know a little more about him. He started to tell them about his ministry and these guards looked amazed…and to my surprise they said that they were actually exited to hear the show.

You can tell he was fighting it, but this merch guy reached over and handed the two men one of his CD’s. And then he leaned over and gave them each of his other albums and told them to take them. Free of charge.

I thought that was one of the coolest things that I had ever seen.

For some reason that stuck with me all night and it really got me thinking about how much I like to receive, yet how unwilling I sometimes am to give away.

It says in Matthew 10:8 that we received the gift of Christ feely, so we should also freely give it away. That meaning that we need to share it with everyone. It’s like a big Thanksgiving table, with bowls full of grace and mercy and healing and peace and joy…Aren’t you happy that the big bowl of grace never runs out? There is ALWAYS enough for everyone.

This lesson has really stuck with me lately. That it’s always better to give to someone, because even just blessing them because you want to is such an amazing example of how Christ loves us. He didn’t have to die…but He chose to freely gave His life so that we may know Him and live in freedom today.
