God's Unconditional Love
I'm studying 1John Chapter 4. In the beginning of this chapter (1John 4:1-6) God tells us how we can tell the difference between the people of this world and God's people. Then he tells us to love one another (1John 4:7). We must love both God's people and the people of this world. I believe this is why Jesus said, "Love thine enemy". I personally have failed to do this sometimes.
When we get to 1John 4:18 we should understand that perfect love is unconditional. I have been fearful at times, and struggle not to fear anything. Fear is torment, and you can feel it.
At the end of the chapter God shows us how his unconditional love, will turn our conditional love, into unconditional love. Many of us will recognize (1john 4:19) "We love him, because he first loved us." The word because is a conditional statement. This is an example of conditional love. Its how we start loving. In 1John 4:20 God will give us the transition to unconditional love that is rerquired to truly know him. Finally 1John 4:21 tells us that we should love our brothers and God unconditionally. Its that initial, unconditional love for our brothers and sisters that allows us to rise above Satan and this world.
I hope you see this the way I do. I believe this to be the tuffest comandment for me to obey. Its very hard for me to love those who offend me, but its what I must do to show God I truly know him. God Bless everyone.
