Our Longsuffering God

They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine. Isaiah 29:24
God is truly merciful.  If we tried to see everytime that God showed us mercy, it would be beyond our comprehension.  God, in all of His mercy never gave up on the nation of Israel, and He never will.  Today's verse is a prophecy concerning Israel.  After so many years of God reaching out to them and protecting them, and them rejecting Him, there will come a time when Israel as a nation will accept Jesus as Messiah, and will come back to God.  He doesn't force them, they just finally realize that what they believed was wrong, and they needed to change.

But God is not a respector of people.  He is not only longsuffering with the nation of Israel, He is longsuffering with us too.  We ignore God's pleading with us.  For those who don't know Him, He is waiting to show you His love.  He sent Jesus to die for your sins.  Those times when you lied, or stole something, or looked at someone and a thought came to your mind... No one on this earth may know about it, but He does, and He is calling for you to repent of those sins and accept His forgiveness.  That is the GREAT thing about God's forgivenss.  You don't have to earn it, all you have to do is accept it.  Simply tell God that you know you are a sinner, and that you can't save yourself.  Repent (which means to turn away from) your sins and ask Jesus to save you.  It's not the words that bring Jesus into your life for salvation, it's your faith.  Trust Him.

For those who do know Jesus as Savior, He is longsuffering because we still want to live our lives like everyone else, and He has called us to something so much better.  How long will you hold on to control in your life?  How long will you keep the reigns and try to run everything yourself?  God will let you try.  He will watch, knowing what will happen, and even try to warn you, but He will not force Himself on you.  Sometimes we have the mistaken notion that God can't possibly run our lives as well as we can, but what have you created lately?  Put your accomplishments up against God's.  Yours will more than pale in comparison, your "accomplishments" when compared to God's will be nothing.  So why not let Him control your life? I guarantee, it won't be easy, and you will probably face more persecutions and troubles than when you ran your life yourself, but you will also have more joy, peace, contentment, and impact on other's lives than you could EVER accomplish on your own.  God is waiting, patiently.
