Will you give it up?
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. ¶ Matthew 13 : 44 Jesus is telling a parable about how important God's kingdom should be to us. If you know Jesus as your Savior, then He is talking to you through this story. We, Christians, have found this treasure that was hid in a field, but the question is, "How important is this treasure to you?" The man in the story didn't care what it would cost him to obtain this treasure, he had to have it! All of his worldly possessions paled in comparison. Is that how you treat God's kingdom, or are you only willing to give what you have left over, from the extra stuff that you don't need? I can imagine this man selling everything but the clothes on his back to get enough money to buy this field, and those around him may not have understood what he was doing, but that didn't matter. Now, think about how this should apply in our lives. God doesn't require us to sell everything that we have and try to earn entry into His kingdom, but what He does want is a sold out devotion to Him and only Him. Where we go wrong is we try to hold on to some of the things that we like, those things that really aren't hurting anyone. If you have something in your life that you are not willing to give up for God, then that is your god. Notice, I didn't say that you had to give it up, only that you have to be willing to give it up, and you don't have to convince me or anyone else of you "willingness", that is between you and God. However, your life will bear witness to what is truly important to you. If you are a Christian, then you are God's child, and He has told you about things in your life that need to be removed, "sold", for Him. Are you willing to let go of it? If not, then why not? Philippians 3:8-11 8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
