Worldviews: Concrete or Weak?

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, which isn't really surprising since my mind gravitates in that direction naturally. I can't imagine what life would be like without the ability to do this thing that we often take for granted called, "thinking." In fact, the very concept of thinking poses interesting questions about the extent to which we can empirically prove reality itself. But this isn't a new concept, and I will spare you the details of that sort of discussion. So to cut to the chase, at the very centre of this blog entry, my question is, "How often do we take for granted our worldview?" Ever since I was young I've always been fascinated with the concept of worldviews. Many people go about their life without even the faintest awareness (or perhaps, interest) of the impact that their worldview has on their life, and the implications that their worldview brings. If we go through life and never rigorously analyze our worldview and the very presuppositions which are at the basis of our beliefs, we will be oblivious to the strength upon which we have founded our worldview - until that foundation is shaken and everything that we've built upon that basis has crashed, and all that's left is debris and sand. I think Jesus pretty much illustrated this truth within this parable which is located in Matthew 7:24-27:

"Therefore whoever hears these saying of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

Don't wait to build a strong foundation and sift through your beliefs - no matter how long that may take. The longer you wait to inspect your worldview, the more you will build upon a foundation which could be weakly founded - great will be the collapse of your worldview when it gets swiftly shaken. In fact, I would go as far as to say: Never stop inspecting the foundation of your beliefs. You're not omniscient, there's always more you can learn - never cease the search for truth. For indeed, if Christ is who he says he is in John 14:6: "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me." - then I think that should be more of reason for us to continually pursue truth, whatever it may be, in everything that we do, all throughout our life; because eventually, if Christ is who he claims - everything will lead us back to him, for he would be the ultimate Truth - and glory would automatically be returned back to him, for to him it would belong. And if Christ is the Truth, then build your life on the Rock, and you will be sure to have a solid foundation upon which you can build your life.

To everyone out there in the blog-o-sphere, I challenge you to inspect the basis of your worldview. Be it a Christian worldview or not. Ask yourself, "Am I taking my worldview for granted?" Is the foundation of your worldview concrete or weak?
