Is your praise better than a rock's??
Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the LORD: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
Today's verse comes from an event in the Bible that is often called the "Triumphal Entry of Jesus". It was a time of great celebration for the Jews becasue they thought that Jesus was setting up an earthly kingdom and was about to throw the Romans out of Israel. Some of the same people crying out, "Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the LORD: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest." would later be crying, "Crucify him". Jesus' popularity was come and go. One day the people would like Him and the next day, they hated Him. Love Him or hate Him, you cannot ignore Him, and if we fail to praise Him, God will get someone else to! Luke 19:39-40 says, "39And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out." Jesus was not exaggerating, if the disciples were too fearful to praise Jesus at this time, the rocks around would have been praising Him. Jesus is the One who is worthy of all praise. The word "King" in our verse today is capitalized. In the Greek language, the only time something was capitalized was when the word began a sentence or it was someone's name. King didn't begin the sentence, so I would suggest that this means that Jesus' name is King. He is The King, later referred to as King of kings! Even though He is the king that is worthy of all praise and honor, Jesus came to this world to serve, and to die so that He could pay the penalty that you and I deserved to pay.
What is holding back your praise today? Is it stress, anxiety, sadness, depression? Do you feel like you don't have a reason to praise? After all that Jesus did for you, there is never a time when you don't have a reason to praise. Get rid of whatever is hindering your praise today, it doesn't deserve to stay, and it is not beneficial to you! You and I were created to praise God. If we fail to do that, God can always find someone or something else to take up the slack, but He WANTS YOU!
